I have a `67 327/350 California car with a complete A.I.R. system in place. The engine assembly date preceeds the air pump julian date assembly by only 2 days. In judging for Top Flight, would it be possible that this would fly without point deduction? Are there any arguments to be made regarding the correctness of dating for these rare pumps?

Re: `67 smog pump date
Jim-----
I can't say how this would fare in judging because there is another factor to consider which is more important than the relationship of the pump date to the engine assembly date. However, it is possible for what you described to occur. Keep in mind that the AIR pumps were installed at St. Louis, and not at the engine plants. The engines had to be manufactured at the engine plants and shipped to St. Louis. The AIR pumps had to be manufactured at Saginaw and shipped to St. Louis.
The really important question here is does the assembly date of the AIR pump preceed the build date of the of the car by at least a few days? If it does not, then the pump would definitely not be considered correctly dated for the car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: `67 smog pump date
Joe thanks for your response. Based on your answer I should be OK. Engine assembly 3-28-67, air pump assembly 3-30-67, vehicle build date 4-11-67. I originally thought the A.I.R. pump was routed to the engine assembly plant rather than St Louis. With the pump going straight to St Louis to catch up with the engine, a 2 day component production window is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.- Top
